Space and geography-James Humphrys-rockets
Rockets were first made in China at around 1100 AD. However these rockets weren't the sort of rockets we used to get to space. These rockets were used solid propellants and were mainly used as weapons. However its main use was for fireworks to celebrate special events in China. But years went by and rockets were soon made into something else. in 1920 rockets emerged and were made into space ships which could take off carrying humans and send them too space. German scientists developed the first rocket during world war two but had to close there project after Germany was invaded. The USA took their idea as well as the Russia.

The first satellite in space was Russia's Sputnik satellite, carried by an R-7 rocket. The R-7 rocket was built by a team of Russian scientists. The team managed to create a rocket big enough to take a explorer called Gagarin into space. Gagarin became the first man in space, but the U.S. astronaut, Neil Armstrong, became the first man on the moon. Soon there was a completion between the USA and Russia as both wanted to be better than each other and they continued to fight to be the best.

We may think that a rocket uses most of its fuel in space and its easy to think that because we have to cover such a large distance in space but however it different as a rocket uses around 50 to 80 per cent of its fuel just to take off. the amount of force it need to lift is incredible. you would need such a larger amount of force to life such an object that in makes prefect sense why we use most of our fuel to lift of. But then again we have to cover such a large distance in space so we need lots of fuel. Well in fact when the space shuttle is in space there is no friction to slow it down. the rocket uses a little bit of its fuel to start it moving but once it has a continuous speed they turn off the fuel and thus it allows the ship to travel thought space. There is nothing to slow or stop the ship so it will continuously go at the same speed until the astronauts stop it or slow it down. So in fact we can afford to use most of our fuel on the very beginning of the trip.

Space and geography-James Humphrys-living in space

Many of us have wondered if we would ever leave Earth and go to a different planet to survive on. we have never attempted this in the past but soon people are going to mars for the first time to live on mars. but it comes at a price as it would take years to get there and so there would be no trip back so they would be there for the rest of their life. This is planned to take place in 2023. NASA are planning on sending four people out of the 200,000 people that applied to live on mars. NASA are then planning on sending 4 more people every two years so in 2023 we will have 4 people and in 2025 we have 8 and so one. This was called the mars one project. Sooner or later we will have a permanent Conley on mars.

Well if someone was chosen to go to mars for the rest of their life they would have to wait 2 years at least to get there. 2 years doesn't seem that bad. In fact being in space sounds awesome. Being able to float around without any gravity and just fly into the air. It would be great to go to space but not to live in space. In fact space is pretty uncomfortable. You will shrink in space because on the lack of gravity so what this means is that you have to exercise every single day. You would also feels a lot more sicker because bacteria becomes more effective. Because of this it makes it so much more dangerous if you get sick. It can even cause death! When you thought that it could not get any worse when you sleep you can see flashing lights which can damage your eyes. All of this causes problems for NASA so astronauts have to exercise and always insure that they have medication so they don't get infected by bacteria.

Space and geography-James Humphrys-black holes and metros

Once again I hope you enjoyed my last post on space and geography where I talked about UFO's and aliens. If you haven't checked it out please do so as I know you will enjoy them.

So today you might have guess I'm going to give my opinion on what black holes and metros are and what they do. Well to start off black holes according to the internet it is a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape. We all picture black holes as dangerous destructive places that eat space ships and plants but in fact there not. black holes are indeed dangerous when you get close to them but if you stay away from them then the will soon disappear. black holes require lots of mass in order to sat alive but if nothing goes into it the black hole will soon disappear. So a black holes greatest enemy is in fact time.

We are not sure exactly what black holes are made up of. We know that matter is falling into it and is no different from the matter which can be found around the universe. A black hole is not made of anything that we understand or can explain in detail. Earth can be described in terms of its atoms and molecules, while a black hole simply just consumes atoms and destroys them.

The chances of being struck by a meteorite is very high according to movies and books and other sort of stories. so it is not a surprise that people are worried about meteors and asteroids but in fact this is not true at all as space is so massive that it would be almost impossible to get hit by a metro. scientists estimate that you have a 1 in 700,000 of getting hit by a metro. So you more likely to win the lottery than actually get killed by a metro. but what about being in space during a metro shower? is that dangerous? We the truth is it is more actually safer than being on earth. Asteroid fields are separated by huge distances. When NASA sent a space ship into space during a metro shower it had a one in a billion chance of getting hit by a metro.

Black holes and metros are not as dangerous as people think they are. They both are very easy to avoid. NASA and other space stations never have problems with these. If fact the most dangerous thing about space is just its size.

As a bonus I thought that you could watch a youtuber called Lemmino who makes great videos on top ten facts particularly space. Feel free to check him out.
